Why children’s art classes?

Art is one of the many ways children express themselves, it can be used to show emotions, thoughts, feelings, ideas, dreams and passions. Art is about the process of creating and exploring not the final product that is important to the child’s learning, satisfaction and inner joy. Sometimes its hard as an adult to grasp this concept but every child is an artist, continuing to love art when you are an adult just depends on how that creativity is fostered, encouraged and embraced. Every child has the innate desire to create. At school bus art we let them make mess, let them explore through texture and colour, let them learn through trial and error, let them go outside the lines, let them make mistakes and have so much fun. By supporting, fostering, encouraging and embracing this process to explore many different ways of creating children are given the opportunity to fully embrace their creativity. It is my privilege to be able to provide many opportunities to support children to find the love, passion and pride through art experiences.

I would like to acknowledge the Kurnai people who cared for the land that we are gathered on at school bus art and I would like to pay my respect to the elders past and present

The school bus art journey

In 2017 my daughter wanted to do art classes and I could not find anywhere local to us to enrol her, it was also in that year that my dad, Paul, brought me a broken down school bus with the intention to turn it into an onsite art studio for me. From this, the crazy dream of school bus art was formed. With the support and love of my family, this dream was made a reality. After my husband, Vinny, excavated the area, moved the bus to the space and cleared room for our sensory garden, my dad worked tirelessly in all his free time to put together an art studio for me to love. My mum, Cindy, collected everything we needed to make the bus a environmentally friendly space, everything has been saved from landfill and recycled, reused and repurposed to the wonderful space it is today. Here at school bus art we are very passionate about environmental impact we cause with our classes and where possibly source our supplies from local business and use recycled products, less plastic and repurposed items. Most of the gorgeous garden you see at the front of the bus has also been designed and created by my mum. During this time I was recovering from a partial finger amputation as a result of an accident whilst removing the seats from the bus so literal sweat and tears were poured into this bus.
